This Garden Guru Loves Hills Sprayers
“Whether I’m spraying roses for aphids, keeping leaf curl at bay on my fruit trees or getting on top of the weeds, I always need a good reliable sprayer. Let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than mixing up a concentrate and tipping it into a sprayer only to find the unit doesn’t work!! That’s why Hills brand sprayers are in my shed. From the large backpacks to the smaller trigger models, they are always ready to go anywhere, anytime – no problems, that’s what I like!” Kym Syrus, Garden Gurus Presenter

Singing the Hills Story
“Having grown up in the tundras of North America, I had never dried my clothes outside. But when I arrived in Australia, I noticed that everyone had contraptions in their back gardens, which I was quickly told were called "Hills' Hoists." Since it was a novelty to me, my friends and co-workers told me their stories of all the other ways they used them as children. I thought this was so much fun, I wrote a song about it, including verses about drying clothes, children's play and imagining taking one around the world” Click here to hear Katy's song. A Legendary Artist Depicts Our Icon
“When asked to depict an iconic aspect of South Australia the Hills Hoist immediately came to mind. I decided to concentrate on the winding mechanism because of its simple sculptural elegance, and also because the casing of the winder contains the guts, brains and reproductive system of the hoist.” Reg Mombassa, Artist

The Hills Hoist built to last
“If Australia is the great suburban land, then the Hills hoist is its very totem. It's hard to imagine a more enduring image of suburbia than a pair of crisp white sheets flapping on a backyard hoist. And to say the Hills Hoist was built to last is an understatement. It's not uncommon for 50-year-old hoists to still be in service. No doubt in the aftermath of a nuclear war, only cockroaches and Hills Hoists will survive. There's little reason to doubt that the new generation of Hills Hoists will be just as robust. Hills Hoists, We salute you!” Stephen Lacey, Journalist

A Longstanding Relationship in the Hardware Game
“Hills Industries and the Australian Hardware Journal are both iconic brands with rich histories. That similarity, and a healthy respect for what each does in their respective fields, has formed the basis for a longstanding relationship between the two companies that is almost as old as the Hills Hoist. And long may it continue that way.” Mark Daffey, Editor Australian Hardware Journal

A South Australain Icon celebrated at Adelaide Airport
“When we were designing Terminal One, we thought it important to use images that represent South Australia. The Hills Hoist is an iconic South Australian image, which we felt would work well within the terminal’s artwork.” John McArdle, AAL’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs

As Aussie as Two-Up
"The Hills Hoist is as Aussie as two-up or a backyard barbecue. It is so iconic that it appeared on an Adelaide International Festival of Arts poster and featured in the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. The fact that this popular clothesline was created in South Australia and has had a stood tall in backyards nation-wide made it a perfect inclusion for our SA Icons Monopoly Charity Edition game.” Ella Ricketts, McGuinness McDermott Foundation

A Popular choice for Australia Day Celebrations
"On behalf of Events Coordination, Department of the Premier and Cabinet I would like to thankyou for supplying the hills hoist bases for our Visions of Australia display at the Australia Day Festival held at the South Bank Parklands on 26 January 2009. The Festival was a huge success and the Big Backyard area where the hoists were displayed was one of the most popular areas. I look forward to next years celebrations and will be in contact with you in the future. Thank you again!" Mark Prystupa, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Queensland
